WHS currently offers 3 different Foreign Language opportunities: Spanish, French and American Sign Language.
Walker High is the only school in our parish offering American Sign Language as a Foreign Language. We are also the only school in the parish offering Spanish Dual Enrollment. We are one of the very few offering the French Language as well.
Through the Spanish CLEP test given at the end of Spanish 3 Honors, students can get multiple hours of college credit depending on their score. Spanish 1 and 2 Dual Enrollment give students the opportunity to get college credit while in high school as well. After ASL 4, students have the ability needed to become a certified interpreter.
Knowing a second language is a huge asset in the workforce. Being bilingual can move you ahead of other applicants. Many majors in college require at least 12 hours of a foreign language. It also helps students understand the English language, because we focus on grammar in the second language.
